International Children and Youth Art Contest

Competition Objectives:

Inspired by the ancient Indian philosophical concept of Indra’s net (Indra Jaal), which emphasizes the interconnectedness of the universe, this contest aims to allow children and youth to express and experience how all environments on Earth are interconnected. Participants will create self-portraits that explore the connection between the past, present, and future, fostering a broad understanding of their universe and promoting peaceful coexistence. The contest encourages artworks that reflect individual uniqueness influenced by regional folk characteristics, traditions, or environments, promoting self reflection and cultural diversity

Eligible Participants:

Children and adolescents aged 6-18

Competition Goals:

  • Promote Cultural Diversity: Encourage children and adolescents from diverse cultural and social backgrounds to express their identities through self-portraits.
  • Enhance Understanding and Respect for Cultural Diversity.
  • Encourage Artistic Expression: Motivate young participants to unleash their creativity and artistic talent.
  • Highlight the Importance of Self-Expression Through Art.
  • Facilitate International Exchange: Provide opportunities for children from different countries and cultural backgrounds to share their artwork and learn about each other’s cultures.
  • Promote Global Fraternity Through Artistic Collaboration and Exchange.

How to Participate:

  • Competition Application Submission: Download the ‘Online Competition Application Form’ from the Odi Art Centre website (Website: odiartcentre.in). Fill out necessary details including name, age, nationality, address, telephone number, school, grade, parents’ names, title and dimensions of the artwork, materials used, year created, a brief introduction to the self-portrait, and signed consent for publication. Submit this information along with a photo file of the artwork online.
  • Artwork Submission: Submit a photo image of a self-portrait painting, not exceeding 60cm x 60cm, that represents your own culture and your emotions or dreams. The artwork should be submitted online along with the application form. The photo file should be approximately 3MB in size.
  • Online Artwork Submission Deadline: August 10 to August 31, 2024. (*Deadline Extended! Submit Artwork by September 10, 2024. ! Don’t Miss Out *)

Judging Criteria: Creativity, expressiveness, regional/folk characteristics, and use of environmentally friendly and safe materials.

Judging Process:

  • The judging panel will select 50 artworks as preliminary award candidates based on the submitted applications and artwork photos.
  • Selected artworks will be announced on the Odi Art Centre website on September 5.
  • Final judging of the selected artworks and announcement of final awards on October 4.

Award Ceremony and Exhibition Schedule:

  • Award Ceremony: The award ceremony and exhibition will take place at the Odisha State Museum on November 14, Children’s Day. Award recipients will receive instructions on the award ceremony venue and participation in the exhibition opening project by October 10.
  • Benefits for Participants and Award Winners: All participants will receive certificates of participation. Award winners will receive certificates, plaques, and gifts on November 14, with online certification available from January 1, 2025. Award categories include ‘Outstanding Artwork’ and ‘Sponsor Designated Awards’. Awarded artworks may be displayed or promoted at the Odisha State Museum, Odi Art Centre, Kawasaki Art Museum in Japan, Korea, and other international locations, as well as online.

  • August 10, 2024: Start of first online submission.
  • August 31, 2024: End of first online submission.
  • September 1, 2024: Start of first online judging.
  • September 3, 2024: End of first online judging.
  • September 5, 2024: Announcement of first online results.
  • September 10, 2024: Start of submission of physical artworks by selected award candidates.
  • September 30, 2024: End of submission of physical artworks by selected award candidates.
  • October 4, 2024: Detailed announcement of second phase award results.
  • October 10, 2024: Deadline for confirming participation in event and project.
  • November 14 – December 27, 2024: Exhibition of award-winning artworks at the Odisha State Museum.
  • January 1, 2025: Announcement of participants, invited artists, and project schedule.
  • February 4 – 20, 2025: Exhibition at the Odi Art Centre in India.
  • February 25- March 2 , 2025: Exhibition at the Kawasaki Municipal Art Museum in Japan.
  • April 2025: Global traveling exhibitions in Korea and other locations.

ODI ART CENTRE

Nestling on the bank of Chilika Lake in Odisha, a state in eastern India, the Odi Art Centre is developed by the ‘Society for Development of Rural Literature’, a registered, non-profit, cultural Society. The Centre, which has built the Purvasha Folk and Tribal Art Museum with financial support from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and the Department of Tourism & Culture, Government of Odisha, showcases the rich traditions of folk and tribal arts of India. Chilika, a brackish water lagoon, has remained a source of inspiration for domestic and foreign tourists, poets, writers and creative artists and ODI ART Centre was added as an incubation centre to its cultural and ethnic heritage. Odi Art Centre, an ethnic art complex, well decorated with collected art objects and surrounded by nine small amphitheatres and gazebos for folk performances, spread over five acres of land. The Odi Art Centre, which houses Purvasha Folk and Tribal Art Museum was inaugurated by Sh. Naveen Patnaik, Hon. Chief Minister of Odisha in 2017.
