Know About This Unique Space of Folk and Tribal Art
The ODIART Centre, designed to reflect local textures and tones, showcases the folk and tribal arts of Odisha, juxtaposed with folk arts from other states and countries. Chilika, Asia’s largest brackish water lake, garners global attention as a bird sanctuary, captivating nature lovers. The OdiArt Centre now serves as a ‘folk art sanctuary’ to attract creative minds and artists. OdiArt, an ethnic art complex adorned with carefully curated artifacts in the galleries and art garden, features nine amphitheaters and kiosks for folk performances, site-specific installations, and exhibitions. It also houses a state-of-the-art conference hall and a library to inspire creative minds. The center includes a restaurant for fine dining, OdiArt Dhaba for street cuisines, and Chilika Fast Food specializing in crab, prawn, and fish dishes. Additionally, there is the Pipul OdiArt Museum resort with ethnic bamboo cottages and tribal houses.
Odisha, endowed with literature, art, performing arts, and culture from the past, reflects a modernized society through its customary forms. Carrying the regional legacy with an embodiment of modernity, the center has sixteen (16) galleries adorned with rare and incredible art pieces, a treat for the eyes. The Rang-Manch (a theatre space) and nine (9) amphitheaters are well-equipped with a blend of natural resources for architecture and modern technology for performances of local traditional art forms. Since 2017, to commemorate its foundation day, from 9th December, ODI ART annually organizes a week-long Chilika Shelduck Folk Carnival.
